MEET PAT

A Candidate to represent the 3rd Ward

Pat Sewell is announcing his candidacy for Common Council of the City of Ithaca representing the 3rd Ward. He is running for a four-year term on the Democratic party line and has been involved in Ithaca politics for a number of years.

Sewell has lived on South Hill for 17 years. He is an Adjunct Professor at Tompkins Cortland Community College, where he co-founded the Adjunct Union and currently serves as the President.  Sewell has also worked at the GreenStar Food Coop since 2007 and currently serves on the Board of Directors as Secretary and the Chair of the Governance Committee. He also serves as the Treasurer for multiple Quaker organizations.

Sewell has been involved in local politics for some time, running as an Independent candidate for Common Council two years ago and petitioning for rank choice voting last summer. He has decided to seek the Democratic nomination after solicitations from multiple constituents who wanted a strong and independent voice for the Ward.

Sewell’s campaign will focus on strengthening the City’s core infrastructure; promoting financial transparency and accountability; ensuring reasonable zoning; and collaborating with Council and the city manager to create a budget that works for everyone. He is committed to acting with integrity and civility, and communicating clearly and respectfully with City staff and his constituents.
